After unsuccessfully searching for the ferry ticket office we asked a man working at a car rental office where it was. We bought the tickets and walked over to the ferry docked at the pier. And it wasn’t as big as I thought it would be. It’s no Staten Island ferry, that’s for sure.
Once on the ferry we saw some rowers on the water. So picturesque.
Approaching the island there are some beautiful ruins and a pretty church. I only managed to get this picture of the church.
I mentioned in my last post about the feral cats and dogs Croatia has to offer. Well…as we disembarked from the ferry we were met by a very cute, very fat golden retriever dog who decided we would be her friends. I named her Harriet. As we walked Harriet followed a few steps ahead, getting much attention from the locals who all seemed to know her.
We came upon this beautiful church tucked in between some houses.
After thinking Harriet had lost interest in us we were surprised to see who but Harriet! Such a good girl. Yes she was.
We continued our walk along the beach. Looking for anything but it looked like the island was not ready for tourists. Shops were closed, only one cafe and a bar were open. Everything else: closed. So we explored.
And went on a small hike to the other side of the island to check out the beach. And Ms. Harriet joined us, of course.
Harriet finally left our side to go…hunting? She stayed in the water, intently searching. I am pretty sure she was after a fish or two. So cute!
Harriet didn’t seem to care that we headed back. She stayed behind and I didn’t get to see her again. I’m still kind of sad that I didn’t get to say goodbye. She was a good friend, for all 3 hours that we knew each other. Once back to where we started we killed a few hours walking about, drinking sodas and coffee at the cafe and bar. Finally we decided to just tough it out and wait for the ferry by the pier, not leaving any chance of missing the last and only boat off the island. So we waited. And waited. And waited. We were pretty frozen when the ferry finally pulled up 45 minutes early.
#1 Tip: If you plan on visiting the neighboring islands make sure to do so during the tourist season. Otherwise you might just be stuck with just Harriet for company. She’s great and all but she doesn’t chat much.

That’s so funny – we had a couple dogs who did the same while we were on Santorini. At least you & G had each other for company. And all the scenery? Gorgeous!

The water didn’t feel too cold actually. I bet mid to late April would be *perfect*.
