Bake with Maria at The Baking Lab

I was totally flattered and excited when my friend Maria invited me to the launch party and press event for her new business, The Baking Lab. I met Maria in Tuscany during a baking course and I was super impressed with her kneading. I soon learned she taught bread baking classes in her flat in Belsize Park. Not long after landing back in London I signed up for a couple of courses and loved them both. I use her baguette recipe quite often.

After teaching smaller courses for the past three years Maria decided to take a leap and open up The Baking Lab. She will continue teaching some of her popular classes (like French and Italian bread making) and has added some sweet ones (for example,Whoop whoop whoopie pies).

Last week, I entered the lab and was greeted with yummy cinnamon twisters and a warm drink.

Tea and coffee? Yes please.

Here’s Maria showing the dough who’s boss. If you’ve never kneaded dough before, do it. It’s one of the best stress relievers and satisfying baking techniques one can do. Fact.

Everyone at the event had a chance to put together, work on the dough and make rolls. Some rolls were dipped into seeds and some were plain. They were so light and with a bit a butter, perfect.

Definitely check out The Baking Lab, in St. John’s Wood. The space is bright and very inviting. I am definitely thinking about taking the ‘Healthy Bread Baking’ and ‘Tarty Tarts’ courses. I call dibs on the yellow mixer!

Ooh la la!

  1. What a neat business! And how very neat to be there as it cracks open! I’m looking forward to future posts about things you learn on that yellow mixer …
