Hi, Fitness? This is Melizza, sorry I ignored you. Friends? M-kay? Bye.

So I have COMPLETELY lost my head (or stomach) to bad food choices AND laziness. Oy. I think I got lazy after seeing steady results. I’ve lost 10lbs. since May and have been consistently losing for the past five weeks. I’m afraid that after a couple of weeks of little exercise (burning only 1100 calories) and too much rich foods. A couple of my friends treated me  an Indian buffet lunch and I sadly did not do well at portion control. Who does at a buffet? Oy again.

But I will be remedying this soon, enter Gladiator Bootcamp. I start Aug. 3 at 5:30AM. Bring it. I really enjoyed the last bootcamp I did but it was kind of pricey to continue. This bootcamp offered a $35 off coupon code (I heart bargains). And because I will miss a week in August due to my shower I was given another $25 off if I signed up for two months. Done. Luckily the camp will only meet twice a week so I will have fresh legs for my long runs on Saturday. Until then I will try to get back on track with WW: make better food choices, track what I eat and stay active.

Sadly, I think my weigh-in this week will suffer and my weight-loss streak will end. Sigh. You play, you pay. But at least I haven’t been indulging in sweets. It’s been a little over a month since I had any. Woo hoo! I don’t crave chocolate or cake but I do miss eating it. Does that make sense? When I get stressed I don’t have any sweets to turn to and help me feel better (not really). But I have discovered a new found appreciation for berries. I have been inhaling them like crazy. I did a Real Simple (August 2009 edition) recipe last week  and it was amazing. Too amazing not to share. It’s very refreshing:

Berries and Coconut Cream

2 pounds of berries (I used strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. The raspberries were too expensive)

2 tbl. granulated sugar

2 tbl. fresh lime juice

1 c. of heavy cream

1/2c. of coconut cream

  • In a large bowl, gently toss the berries, sugar and lime juice.
  • With an electric mixer, beat the heavy cream and cream of coconut until soft peaks form. Serve with the berries.

So you may be wondering, ‘Doesn’t this count as a dessert? Aren’t you technically cheating?’ I debated over this for a few days. I have to say ‘no’ because it’s my typical dessert, the kind I fall victim to. Berries and Cream offers vitamins, fiber and has minimal additives. And hello, berries are nature’s candy. The desserts I usually overindulge in are cakes, chocolate and ice cream. A serving of berries and cream goes a long way. Next time I’ll use less coconut cream. I found the cream a bit too sweet (say what Melizza? You found it too sweet?!). Must be all the lack of sugar I’ve been taking in lately.

    I love the dress you wore for your e-pics. Maybe you can repurpose that one for the video plus add a dress you could also wear to the rehearsal dinner?

    Good idea! I think I might dress up the e-pic dress differently. Maybe with some green? I am still holding out for the rehearsal dress in hopes that I’ll be a bit more tone and smaller by then.
