Dachau: Germany’s first concentration camp, about 10 miles northwest of Munich. I remained haunted by the whole visit for several days after. Haunted still.

"Arbeit macht frei" is written on the entrance gates; literally meaning "work makes (one) free"
The barracks. The camp consisted of 69 barracks.
A barrack meant to sleep 50 people but over 200 people slept in one.
These gates lead to the original crematorium and burials for the unknown.

I went there about 10 years ago now. It really sticks with you. Did you notice there’s still an absence of birdsong there?
Yes! It was very eerily quiet.
did they get blankets?
I didn’t see one picture with them wearing coats or any mention of blankets. Prisoners were literally worked to death in the worst possible way.
